The PhD program was established to adopt the advanced stream of thoughts, theories and practices in the core of, and related to, the field of Urban and Regional Planning-URP, i.e., that in terms of, and not limited to, the transition from traditional planning theories to theories of comprehensive, strategic and action planning. Additionally it has aim to incorporate sustainable development in all economic and service sectors, within the geographic domains of: cities, governorates and regions of the country and/or the network of cities and countries.  The program further anticipated to provide technical support, and strongly contribute to draft and implement the national/local strategy of Saudi Arabia for: (i) developing the human resources and the physical environments of cities; (ii) protecting the natural environment and archaeological sites; (iii) creating new job opportunities; and (iv) providing basic needs: healthy food, clean drinking water and adequate affordable houses, in addition to efficient public transport systems for the Saudi society. The completion of the PhD degree will take a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 5 years.
